The pros and cons of dental implants.

Dental implants have been the most effective way to replace missing teeth for years.

Think that today you can replace all the teeth of an arch with a prosthesis fixed on just 4 or 6 dental implants, thanks to the All on Four and All on Six techniques.

This means having the maximum result with the minimum number of implants.

However, implantology since its birth has always had a problem: the long time that the patient must wait for having the dental prosthesis positioned on the implants.

Usually, in fact, you must wait 4 to 6 months before putting the prosthesis, because the implants must integrate perfectly into the bone that houses them.

During this time the patient is forced to wear an uncomfortable denture, which prevents him from chewing well.

Today, fortunately, this problem no longer exists, because you can have your new teeth fixed the same day as the surgery, thanks to a technique called immediate loading implantology.

What is immediate loading implantology

Immediate loading implantology is a technique that allows you to fix a temporary prosthesis over dental implants immediately after dental implant surgery.

The patient therefore no longer has to wait for many months with a mobile prosthesis in his mouth but can have an immediate aesthetic and functional solution that allows him to smile immediately without problems.

After 4-6 months from surgery, it will be possible to replace the temporary prosthesis with the definitive one.

Immediate loading: necessary conditions

Immediate loading is a great innovation in the field of dental implantology, because it allows patients to have their teeth fixed immediately.

But not everyone can undergo this type of intervention. Certain conditions must be met:

  1.  Quality and quantity of bone

Bone density and volume are two essential aspects that determine implant stability. If the implantologist notices that there is not enough bone, he must first graft it again: in this case it is necessary to wait a few months before putting the prosthesis on.

  •  Primary stability of the plant

The implantologist, after screwing the implant into the bone, is able to assess its primary stability, a measure expressed in Newton centimeters.

If the stability of the plant is insufficient, immediate loading will not be possible and therefore it will be necessary to resort to the deferred load (traditional).

  •  Patient commitment

Having a quality bone and good stability are not enough: the patient must strive to maintain excellent oral hygiene and avoid eating foods that are too hard in the first months after surgery.

If the implantologist has doubts that the patient can respect these conditions, he can propose alternative solutions to immediate loading.

In any case, to cover any possible damage or problem that may occur to implants and prostheses over the years, in MP Dental Studio we offer a 7-year warranty to all patients who undergo prosthetic-implant work.

Immediate loading system: pros and cons

What are the advantages and contraindications of immediate loading? Let’s see them:

Benefits of immediate loading

The positive aspect of immediate loading is that already on the same day as the operation you can return to smile without problems or embarrassment, because instead of your teeth you will have a fixed (temporary) prosthesis and not a showy denture.

In MP Dental Studio we have optimized the workflow to such an extent that we can deliver the fixed dental prosthesis in just 6 hours.

Contraindications immediate loading

The only contraindication of immediate loading implantology is that it cannot be performed on patients suffering from osteoporosis, due to the primary instability to which the implant is subjected. For these patients the classic solution is more suitable, where they wait months before loading the implant with the prosthesis.

Immediate loading of risks

The risk factors of immediately loaded implants must be kept under control in order not to compromise the success of the treatment.

The risks that can endanger the immediate load are above all 2: circulatory diseases and poor bone quality

If you believe you are at these risks, talk to your dentist to find out if you can perform the surgery.

Immediate loading implantology without bone: is it possible?

Carrying out an immediate load without bone is possible: a specific surgery must be performed before the operation to regenerate the bone that is missing.

After the bone has regenerated properly, immediate loading implant treatment can be started.

Each person is a special case and must be evaluated by a specialist to have a complete diagnosis and to understand which the best way is to proceed.
