How has genetics evolved throughout the years? Here is a little history when it comes to genetics!

Like everything in science, genetics has come a long way since the term first came to be. Genetics have been so important to medicine and science nowadays. Thanks to genetics, we can now determine if a patient has a disorder and if this affects them in any way and if it does, doctors have found the way to make these disorders impact a lot less noticeable. Here is how genetics and its history have evolved throughout the years.

First of all, how did it all begin?

I bet you have heard of someone called Mendel right? Well you if you have not yet, you will now! Lots of his genetic research was done with pea plants. His work was published around 1866 and that’s where the theory of Mendelian inheritance came to be. Lots of theories came before and after his work, but his was the strongest so far.

Does genetics have a role in human evolution?

According to all the genetic research done by scientists so far, it does. Why? Well, simple. Through Mendel’s research and lots of studies done afterwards, statistics where able to be done when it comes for the framework relating to genetics and this was used to explain the whole human evolution ordeal through science and tested theories.

What is DNA and why is it so important to genetics anyways?

Through the many studies done as the years passed by, it was determined that DNA was the genetic material that defines what a person will inherit or not. Believe it or not, this was done not so long ago around the 1920s. Afterwards, around the 1960s the code that defines DNA was determined.

How far has genetics come?

We have come really far when it comes to genetics and genetic research. Now, syndromes and disorders can be determined thanks to all these discoveries, genetic testing can be done in order to make assertive diagnosis for patients and if you look at the fun side of genetics, you can determine what the color of your next generation’s eyes will be so there will not be any surprises there!
